Château-La-Gaffelière Clos La Gaffelière St Emilion Grand Cru 2015
This lovely wine is the second label of the illustrious Château-La-Gaffelière. Created in 1985, Clos was first exclusively offered to private clients, but since 2000, has been sold in small quantities through Bordeaux negociants. The blending is Merlot and Cabernet Franc, whose percentage differs according to the vintage. It is a 'wine for pleasure' with a 10 year potential of aging. The work in the younger plots of Clos is the equal to the actions in the parcels for the first label : pruning, cover, de-leafing, green harvest, hand-picking. In the cellar, the same technical gestures pace the successive stages of vinification. Unlike its brother, this wine ages only in one-year French oak barrels during 10 to 12 months.
James SucklingThis is wound up nicely with brambly, fresh red and dark berries, as well as light mocha and Middle Eastern spices. The palate has punchy flavors delivered in suave, fine tannins and attractive full body. Drink or hold.
Wine Spectator Straightforward, with cherry and plum preserve notes underscored by a red licorice edge. A lightly toasted vanilla accent hangs on the finish. Drink now through 2020. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 4,000 cases made.
