Nickel & Nickel C.C. Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
Since 1997, Nickel & Nickel has focused on producing single-vineyard, single varietal Napa Valley wines from the appellation’s most significant AVAs. Owned by Far Niente, it is located in Oakville, Napa Valley. The process of selecting a site to produce a single-vineyard wine is of paramount importance. Every aspect of a vineyard must meet the Nickel & Nickel standards, including the soil, rootstock, clonal selection, exposure and farming practices. The viticulture team farms with precision, based on what is required for each site to achieve the purest expression of its place. The process reveals how vineyards that are in some cases less than a mile apart and growing the same varietal, may produce wines of remarkably different character.
C.C. Ranch is planted in Rutherford, along the slope of a knoll west of the Silverado Trail. The vineyard grows classic Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon on well-drained, gravelly loam soil and receives a variety of exposures, depending on the block and location. The vines are well balanced and the canopy is opened up to give good light exposure. Nickel & Nickel produces wine from 15 select acres of this 115-acre vineyard.
Look for notes of bright cherry, raspberry and dried herbs with a bright, elegant entry with seductive flavors of red fruit, tobacco leaf and baking spices coating the tongue. A delicate minerality on the palate creates a finish that lingers well after the last sip.

VinousThe 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon C.C. Ranch is a classic Rutherford Cabernet with knock-out aromatics, deep fruit and fabulous balance. Cedar, tobacco, menthol, red cherry, chocolate and espresso are all finely knit in a wine that balances elegance with power to grand effect. Even with all of its intensity, the 2017 remains vibrant, fresh and full of energy.
Wine EnthusiastThis is a savory, textured wine from a ranch off the Silverado Trail in the heart of the appellation. It sings in cedar, dried herb and sage, with an inviting, earthy nose. The grippy palate develops to show smooth integration of tannin and oak, with a lasting note of tobacco leaf on the finish.
Wine SpectatorRipe and racy, with a focused beam of red currant and bitter plum fruit, laced with floral and iron notes. A savory edge peeks through, wrapping around the fruit on the finish, adding energy and drive. Best from 2021 through 2030. 2,703 cases made.
Jeb DunnuckMore chocolate, tar, dried tobacco, and earthy notes emerge from the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon C.C. Ranch, a medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, savory Rutherford Cabernet. I love its tannins, it has a balanced, seamless mouthfeel, terrific length, and is a classic 2017 to enjoy over the coming 15+ years.

Ranch opens with fragrant cassis, black forest cake, kirsch and stewed plums plus wafts of pencil shavings, black olives and iron ore. The palate is medium to full-bodied and firm with nice harmony, softly spoken flavors and a chewy, quietly intense finish. Drink Date: 2019-2034.
