Caymus winemaker Chuck Wagner believes that the 'magic' of Mer Soleil lies in the combination of cooler weather and lots of sunlight. He and his son Charlie own Mer Soleil Vineyard which is located in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The winery is named after the sea (Mer), due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, and the sun (Soleil), due to the abundant California sunshine. Charlie Wagner is the winemaker. After great success with Chardonnay, it was only natural that Charlie would make a Pinot Noir in addition to the Chardonnay. The Santa Lucia Highlands is well-known as the perfect home for both these varietals. Grapes ripen slowly, enabling them to make wine of heightened complexity, with layers of aromas and flavors.

Deep, brilliant garnet. Spice-accented red berries, vanilla and candied flowers on the perfumed nose, with a smoky nuance emerging as the wine opens up. Sappy, appealingly sweet and focused on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and cherry preserve. Rose pastille flavors smoothly blend power and delicacy. Fine-grained and seamless in texture, finishing extremely long and floral, with resonating spiciness and smooth, well-knit tannins.
