Tenuta Le Calcinaie Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2019
We visited Simone Santini at his vineyard, Tenuta Le Calcinaie, near San Gimignano and tasted his full range of organic, classic Tuscan wines. Across the board, both the whites and reds were ripe, pure, energetic and utterly charming, just as the winemaker is! Le Calcinaie has 12 hectares covered with vines with perfect exposure, beautifully tended. This white is made of 100% Vernaccia grape, aged in stainless steel. It's super fresh and thirst quenching with lemon, mineral, white flower and white melon flavors. Serve with goat and sheep's milk cheeses, shellfish and lemony chicken dishes.
“Tenuta le Calcinaie is a breakout winery in this report. Their Vernaccia-based wines all performed beautifully. I look forward to tasting more from this small estate in the future.” –Wine Advocate

James SucklingLots of lemon, lime and some fennel aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, fruity and creamy. Very nicely done for Vernaccia di San Gimignano. From organically grown grapes.
Wine AdvocateFrom vintner Simone Santini, the Tenuta le Calcinaie 2019 Vernaccia di San Gimignano is another exciting and fresh white wine made from organic fruit. This Tuscan appellation excels in terms of the high percentage of estates that farm sustainably. In the case of this wine, you get lovely aromas of stone fruit and pear, with salty mineral notes. This is a lean-bodied white that prioritizes primary fruit; however, Tenuta le Calcinaie boasts more textural richness and depth than most. It's a great choice for fried seafood—and a great value to boot.
