Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Stag's Leap Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 1.5L
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970, a time when the Napa Valley was undergoing a wine renaissance after the devastating effects of Prohibition. Although there had once been some 140 wineries in the valley, there were fewer than 20 by the mid-1960s. Then in 1976 at the famous Judgement of Paris, Stag's Leap 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet won the competition by besting top estates in Bordeaux including Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Haut-Brion. The legend and legacy of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars had begun.
S.L.V., also known as Stag’s Leap Vineyards, is the winery’s first vineyard. Planted in 1970, this vineyard achieved international fame when three-year old vines from the 1973 harvest produced a Napa Valley wine that triumphed over some of France’s greatest Bordeaux in a blind tasting among French wine experts in Paris. This history-making vineyard continues to produce wines with complex black fruit and berry character, spicy intensity, excellent structure and complexity, promising long life and ageability. Today, the property encompasses roughly 35 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and 1.5 acres of Merlot. The vineyard soil is volcanic and alluvial with good drainage, and benefits from warm afternoons and cool evening breezes.

Wine AdvocateCelebrating its 40th anniversary vintage, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap Vineyard (S.L.V.) Estate-Grown may be one of the all-time great offerings from Stag's Leap Vineyard. It's not easy to say after 40 years of achievement, but it is certainly a candidate for one of the finest Stags Leap Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons ever made, particularly under this moniker (We have to exclude the Cask 23 and the Fay Vineyard.) Opulent, with fabulous texture, a dense purple color, great blueberry and blackcurrant fruit with spice and flowers, this is sexy Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink beautifully for another 20 years or more. The balance is sensational.
Wine EnthusiastMarking the producer's 40th vintage since the success of the Paris Tasting, this continues the thread of power and grace, combining bright, dusty red currant and chocolate-covered cherry within soft, integrated tannin. Full bodied, it has a velvety touch to the texture and noticeable structure.
