Brand Domaine Faiveley

Considered a Mercurey specialist, 'the Faiveley family first produced wine from rented vines in Mercurey in 1933, finally beginning to acquire land there three decades later. Today, with over 72 hectares to their name, they number equally among the Côte Chalonnaise's most important landholders and its qualitative reference points. Unsurprisingly, the style bears a certain resemblance with the contemporary Faiveley style as expounded in the Côte d'Or: that's to say, pure and precise wines that no longer display any trace of structural asperity for which the house was once known and often carry a judicious veneer of new oak in their youth. The Faiveley reds and whites from Mercurey, Montagny and Rully are more immediately accessible and see less new wood, but they play off the same themes and rank among the region's finest. What's more, the domaine's significant holdings mean that many of these bottlings are unusually accessible by Burgundian standards. 2017 is a successful vintage here, somewhat reminiscent of 2009, and all these offerings come recommended.' Wine Advocate reports.

Domaine Faiveley combines the principles of modern winemaking methods with the time honored traditions that have been practiced for centuries within their 19th century cellars. Each terroir and each vintage, benefits from special attention which makes the cuvées unique. Each bottle therefore becomes the faithful reflection of its terroir. Mercurey is located in the Cote Chalonnaise, and is the largest appellation in Burgundy with over 1600 acres under vine. Domaine Faiveley's village Mercurey is sourced from 5 parcels spread throughout the appellation for a total of 95 acres. Vines date back as far as 1962 and soils are primarily clay and limestone.

Grapes are hand harvested, sorted and pressed on site in Mercurey. Following vinification the young wines are brought to the domaine cellars in Nuits-St-Georges for aging. The wine is aged in a combination of stainless steel and oak for 12 to 14 months prior to release.
