Purchased by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953, Château Trotanoy has been considered one of the premier crus of Pomerol since the eighteenth century. This excellent 'second' wine crafted at Trotanoy made its debut in the 2009 vintage, with a tiny 500 case production. Made of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, from excellent soil diversity - gravel mixed with clay and deep black clay, along with the local “machefer” or iron pan in the subsoil which gives the wine power, depth and added complexity- Espérance is such a beautiful wine and a relative value in the world of luxury Pomerol wines. The 2012 will drink well young and age for up to a decade. For pairing food with Pomerol, look for the more refined and simply prepared cuts of meats such as loin chops, rib chops and rack of lamb.
