Castell de Santueri Mallorca Blanco 2016
The Castell de Santueri Mallorca Blanco is made from Premsal blanc, an indigenous white variety with a light structure and bright acidity. The wine is crisp with nice minerality, salinity, subtle herb and white fruit notes. We tasted this before a big Spanish dinner one evening, and we loved its clean, fresh, thirst quenching nature. It is dry but not too dry, and very charming. Serve with white fishes, green olives, Marcona almonds and lighter, fresh cheeses, such as Manchego or soft go or as an aperitif on its own. This may remind you of
The wines at Castell de Santueri are made by brothers-in-law Pere Obrador and Miguel Angel "el Pirata" Cerda. They are both commited to bringing back the vinification of native varieties in Mallorca including their Anima Negra Wine. Mallorca's terroir is blessed with endless sun and the Meditterannean heat along with salty marine breezes and a cooling northerly wind that sweeps into the center of the island from the nearly 5,000 foot Serra de Tramuntana. The soil is red clay with small limestone deposits. This white is made from small dry farmed plots near the town of Felanitx, which are worked manually and harvested by hand. Sustainable philosophy encourages wild plants, flowers, grasses, herbs and even apricot trees to grow in the vineyards to keep bush vines in good company and happy.
