Stephane Aviron Saint Amour 2017
Winemaker/owner Stephane Aviron produces traditional, terroir-driven, distinctive wines from all of the important cru's. His family has hailed from the Beaujolais region for many generations, and winegrowing is clearly in his blood. We drink his wines often at home, as they are always pretty, complex and true to their appellations. 2015 is a spectacular vintage, we tasted Stephane's full range and found that he achieved great finesse across the board in this rich, fruit and terroir-driven vintage.
Designated as a Cru in 1946, Saint-Amour is known today as the most romantic Beaujolais of all. In fact, 20 to 25 percent of Saint-Amour sales occur in February. From a geographical standpoint, Saint-Amour is the most northerly Cru, as well as one of the smallest. The soils are composed of granite, clay, schist and limestone and produce a wine which is soft, fruity and floral, it has aromas of red fruit, peony, peach, kirsch, spice and mignonette. Saint-Amour is comprised of 115 growers that produce a total average of 1.6 million bottles a year.
