Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico 2015
Located in the Gaiole district, with vineyard land stretching into the Castellina district of the Chianti Classico, Rocca di Castagnoli is one of Classico's most important estates due to its size and soils. The 'Galestro' is looks like a stone, compacted of clay which captures high amounts of minerals. This estate represents the rare quest for classical, acidity driven, but ripe Chianti Classico from higher altitude vineyards. Owned by the Cali family, this estate has shown great integrity by aiming at a vineyard distinction on each label, to document the variety of soils and microclimates that make the Chianti Classico so famous. Today Rocca di Castagnoli is the only estate developing new head pruned Sangiovese vineyards in the Classico region.
The 2015 Chianti Classico is made of 90% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo and Colorino, 100% estate vineyards farmed organically, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged 12 months in both small oak casks and large tonneaux barrels. Balanced, pure and traditional in style, it is a delicious example from the Classico zone. Serve with pasta dishes with fresh tomato sauces, grilled white meats, wood fire pizza or with cheeses and salumi.
Rocca di Castagnoli is a thousand year old farm with the first cultivations dating back to the Etruscan period. In the 18th century, Castagnoli was one of the most celebrated estates of the Chianti area, as was testified by the compliments of the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo in 1773. Then in 1924, the Rocca di Castagnoli estate, together with the most celebrated farms of the area, founded the Consortium of the Classic Chianti wine which regulates the quality of this famous Italian wine.
