Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2014
First produced in 1959, Bin 28 is Penfolds earliest Bin-range wine. The first releases were single-vineyard wines made from the renowned Kalimna Vineyard in the Barossa Valley. Bin 28 was first made while Grange was still being made in secrecy. Today Bin 28 showcases warm-climate Australian Shiraz – ripe, robust and generously flavored. The Kalimna Vineyard was purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented. The other regions include McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Padthaway. Aged 12 months in seasoned American oak hogsheads.

Wine AdvocateDeep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28 is open for business with a gorgeous nose yielding tons of spice box and berry preserves notes, plus suggestions of licorice and chocolate box. It is soft and supple on entry in the mouth with rounded tannins, rich fruit and a long, spicy finish.
Wine SpectatorNotes of fresh clay, black tea, rosemary, mineral and black licorice expand on the finish. The tannins are dense and thick, providing a chewy background for all the flavors. Drink now through 2028. 2,955 cases imported.
