Château-de-Gaure Pour Mon Pere Languedoc 2015
Pierre Fabre is the son of a wine grower from the Garde in the south of France, who pursued careers outside of wine before returning home and living the life of a vineyard owner and winemaker in the Languedoc. In 2004, he found and purchased the Chateau de Gaure, an estate near Carcassonne with 200 ha of land and a castle in the middle. The property dates back to prehistoric times and was once the site of an ancient Oppidum -a large defended Iron Age settlement. Numerous relics have been found scattered throughout the property. Pierre currently owns 15ha in Limoux (8 ha Chardonnay, 5 ha Chenin Blanc and 2 ha Mauzac) and 35 ha in the Roussillon (going into the Languedoc appellation). The total production is only about 60,000 bottles.
Bottle ShopBeautifully plush and silky on the medium-full-bodied palate, we just loved the mingling of red fruits, black fruits, licorice, flowers, minerals and mocha in both the nose and mouth. This has a very refined style for what you would consider a 'country' red, and will be great to recommend to Chateauneuf-du-Pape lovers, or even adventurous Cabernet fans.
