The founders of Fortaleza credit their great-great grandfather, Don Cenebio, with being the first person to export 'mezcal de tequila' and for shortening the name to simply Tequila. He founded his first distillery – La Perseverancia – in 1873, in the town of Tequila, Jalisco and raved about the attributes of Blue Agave. Today we have 5th generation Don Guillermo making tequila in the same way it was made over 100 years ago – with a small brick oven to cook the agave, a tahona to squeeze the juices out of the agave, wood tanks for fermentation, and the 2 original copper pots for distillation. Don Guillermo re-launched Destileria La Fortaleza in 2005 with the goal to make the best tequila possible, with the traditional, artisinal ways.
Aromas of citrus, and rich cooked agave fill your nose in this unique and very special blanco tequila. Also present: butter, olive, earth, black pepper, and a deep inviting vegetal complexity. Flavors include citrus, cooked agave, vanilla, basil, olive, and lime. The finish is long and deep, complex yet easy to drink. Fortaleza Blanco is a true aficionado's tequila.
“This is probably the best blanco on the planet. Love it. Huge bursts of olive and butter. Yum.”
– Grover Sanschagrin / Founder, Tequila Matchmaker
