Chichibu Distillery Ichiro's Malt & Grain Blended Whisky
Chichibu Distillery – Ichiro’s Malt - is a blend of malts from Scotland, Ireland, Canada, and America; this whisky combines top international whiskies, first aged in their own countries for 3-5 years, and then aged in Japan at Chichibu for an additional 1-3 years. This whisky is packed with aromas of lemon zest, stone fruit, toffee and cream.
The first of Ichiro Akuto’s forefathers began making alcoholic beverages in Saitama Prefecture some three centuries ago. And Ichiro's grandfather began making whisky in the mid 1940’s with Hanyu Distillery, whose focus on malt whiskies took off with the Japanese economic boom of the 1980’s. However, when the bubble burst in the 1990’s, so too did the first Japanese Whisky boom. This lead Hanyu to shutter his doors, along with several other distillers. Ichiro saved the old inventory of Hanyu and released the “Playing Card” series. With the success of that, Ichiro-san saw that the revival was imminent and in 2008 he built his current distillery in Chichubu, Saitama Prefecture. Ichiro-san embraces the tradition and heart of the Scottish whisky making, and balances it with the precision of the Japanese shokunin philosophy.
