The Raymond family arrived in Napa Valley in 1933 and became connected to the Beringer family via marriage in 1936. Roy worked as winemaker for Beringer from 1933-1970, when in 1970, he and his two sons set out on their own with the 90-acre estate property in Rutherford where the winery is located. They released their first commercial wine under the Raymond Vineyards label in 1974 and never looked back. Today, the Raymond winery is owned by Boisset Family Estates. Jean-Charles Boisset serves as president of Boisset, one of the world’s leading family-owned wine companies, with wineries in Burgundy, Beaujolais, the Rhone Valley, the South of France, and expertise in French sparkling wines. Boisset’s August 2009 purchase of Raymond Vineyards expanded the company’s footprint in the New World, which already included properties in Canada and California’s Russian River Valley, making it one of the top twenty-five producers in the US.

Wine AdvocateThe 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Reserve is made up of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 2% Petite Sirah and 1% Merlot. It was aged in 37% new French oak and bottled unfiltered. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with quite a serious, savory nose of roasted nuts, espresso and charcuterie with a core of cassis, warm blackberries and black forest cake plus a waft of pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-filling, expressive black fruit flavors, framed by chewy tannins, finishing savory. 22,860 cases produced.

Wine EnthusiastThis large-scale red is approachable in dense red fruit, thick, supple tannin and integrated oak. Rhubarb, dark cherry, clove and orange peel combine across a full-bodied palate of richness and length.

Jeb DunnuckThe ruby/plum-hued 2017 Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet checks in as 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, and the rest Petite Sirah and Merlot. It has loads of spiced currants, tobacco, and dried herb notes to go with a medium to full-bodied, nicely textured, round, supple, and polished style. It's balanced, has loads to love, and sells at a great price.
