Paolo Conterno Barbera d'Asti 2015

SKU 02670

This Barbera comes from a single cru named “Bricco Sant’Ambrogio,” located in Roddi d’Alba region of Piedmont. The vines, averaging 25 years in age, are grown at about 280 meters above sea level in clay and sandy marl. Structured yet elegant, the Barbera “Bricco” is macerated for up to two weeks and ages for nearly a year in large oak. When we attended Vin Italy in 2012, one of our absolute favorite estates to taste and discover was Paolo Conterno. The family members we met were proud of never having used a single barrique (small barrel) at the winery. This is quite an impressive feat, since the majority of their neighbors have either tried, then abandoned the method and gone back to traditional large barrel aging, or they have switched to barrique, giving a more modern style of Barolo wines. The Conterno clan is steadfastly part of the traditional way of thinking and producing wine. They are known for owning spectacular sites in Barolo and expressing these sites' terroir's in their wines.

Bottle ShopThis is a lovely, pure and delicious Barbera from the Asti zone. Deeper and richer than what you expect from Asti, yet it has the typical fresh and elegant style. Look for silky red plum, black cherry and licorice notes on the nose and in the mouth. The pedigree and old vines of the site shine through. This is also wonderfully balanced and refined.
