Stephane Aviron Morgon Cote du Py Vieilles Vignes 2015
We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.
The Morgon Côte du Py is Stéphane Aviron's most famous and most structured wine, capable of aging for up to 10 years. The grapes are sourced from the slopes of an 1150-foot inactive volcano that is regarded as one of the top terroirs in all of Beaujolais. Vines face due south on a well pitched hillside of poor sandy soil. Aged in a combination of new and used oak casks, the Côte du Py is usually a highlight at the yearly Burgundy tasting hosted by Frederick Wildman & Sons, as it is the wine that Aviron is most famous for. However, in the 2015 vintage, our overall impression was that Stéphane achieved such beautiful finesse and richness across the board in his 2015s that it was honestly difficult to narrow our purchases to a few villages...we wanted to buy them all! By focusing upon old vines, poor soils and biodynamic farming, Stéphane Aviron achieves incredibly low yields and highly concentrated grapes. Aviron, who hails from the Beaujolais region, is dedicated to producing wines from old vines, organic agriculture and vinifies using classic Burgundian techniques.

Bottle ShopMorgon 'Cote du Py' is considered by many to be winemaker Stephane Aviron's most impressive wine. We have tasted it every year for over 15 years, and this 2015 was one of our favorites ever. Black and blue fruits, volcanic rock and licorice notes coat the palate in a rich style, yet this does not taste heavy. This vintage of Cote du Py shows off finesse, balance and purity in a complex, multi-layered style. Drink or hold.
