Stephane Aviron Morgon Cote Du Py 2018
The Morgon Côte du Py is Stéphane Aviron's most famous and most structured wine, capable of aging for up to 10 years. The grapes are sourced from the slopes of an 1150-foot inactive volcano that is regarded as one of the top terroirs in all of Beaujolais. Vines face due south on a well pitched hillside of poor sandy soil. Aged in a combination of new and used oak casks, the Côte du Py is usually a highlight at the yearly Burgundy tasting hosted by Frederick Wildman & Sons, as it is the wine that Aviron is most famous for.
In the 2018 vintage, our overall impression was that Stéphane achieved such beautiful finesse and richness across the board in his 2018s that it was honestly difficult to narrow our purchases to a few villages...we wanted to buy them all! By focusing upon old vines, poor soils and biodynamic farming, Stéphane Aviron achieves incredibly low yields and highly concentrated grapes. Aviron, who hails from the Beaujolais region, is dedicated to producing wines from old vines, organic agriculture and vinifies using classic Burgundian techniques.

Bottle ShopDeep black and purple fruits mingle with stones and herbs on the nose, which is bright and invigorating, leading to blackberries, savory plums, violets, tomato leaf and more stones on the palate. Medium-full body, balanced acidity, very juicy in its fruit tones, with smooth tannins. This is such a fine example of great Beaujolais’ complexity.
