Clusel Roch Coteaux Lyonnais Traboules 2016
The quiet and traditional French AOC region of Coteaux du Lyonnais lies in the northern area of the Rhône River Valley, stretching from just south of Lyon down to St Peray and south of Hermitage. It is essentially the geographic connection from Beaujolais into the Rhône, and the style of the wines reflects this connection. The climate leans toward Mediterranean, but the Gamay grape originally from cooler areas, still grows successfully here. One of the local vignerons is a man named Guillaume Clusel who owns an organic estate focusing upon the Gamay grape variety and produces this wine here. Fresh, bright, tart yet juicy, the 'Traboules' 2016 was a staff favorite during the Fall tasting season. Look for cranberry, pomegranate, wild cherry, strawberry, mineral and white pepper notes, and serve with fresh tuna especially cold tartar-style, baked turkey with wild rice, Lyonnais salad with egg and bacon, and/or saucisson and French pâté.
