Actor and Yakima native Kyle MacLachlan has been producing Pursued by Bear Cabernet Sauvignon for 10+ years, making top notch Washington State Cabernets and Syrahs. The project (which takes its cheeky name from a stage direction, "Exit, pursued by bear," in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale) was rooted in Kyle's birthplace of Yakima and his friendship with the late Eric Dunham, a great Washington State winemaker who inspired him to start the project. His wines are truly exciting, well-made, complex and a pleasure to drink.
The 2016 has aromas of black cherry and dusty eucalyptus and flavors of cassis, cranberry and dark fruits, which have been the hallmarks of Pursued by Bear Cabernet Sauvignon since its debut in 2005. The 2016 vintage offers similar characteristics, with subtle aromas of cigar box and a hint of mocha also present across a textured mouthfeel that gives way to a long, persuasive finish. The wine spent 28 months in Taransaud new French oak barrels. The tight grain and thick staves allow for longer barrel aging and create tannins that are integrated and refined.
The 2016 includes grapes from DuBrul Vineyard , Dionysus Vineyard, Weinbau Vineyard and Heather Hill Vineyard, all in the Columbia Valley. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. 491 Cases produced.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, which includes 5% Merlot, comes from the Champoux, DuBrul, Dionysus, and Weinbau vineyards and spent 30 months in barrel. It's a medium to full-bodied, nicely fruited, elegant Cabernet that shows the more streamlined style of the vintage yet still brings beautiful depth and length. It's going to keep for a solid 10-15 years.

A handsome red, precise and refined, with multilayered blackberry, savory spice and tobacco accents that finish with polished tannins. Drink now through 2029. 641 cases made.

This wine is hedonism in a glass. Dark chocolate, cherry, vanilla and spice aromas are followed by rich, textured fruit flavors that coat the palate. It's decadent, but the vintage's backbone keeps it all beautifully in balance.
