This library release was purchased directly from the importer in the Fall of 2017, and is an extraordinary wine for Burgundy aficionado's. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé can trace its roots back over 550 years, to 1450, and the Chambolle vines of Jean Moisson. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation - Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. Winemaker François Millet thins his crop to optimize flavors through reasonable yields. He ages 30-40% of the Grands Crus in new oak barrels, a move that emphasizes earth and fruit flavors instead of spicy wood aromas. This Chambolle Musigny is made from vines in the southwest portion of the village and includes some declassified prm from Les Baudes and Fuées

International Wine CellarGood medium-deep red. Slightly reduced aromas of raspberry, minerals and mint; showed superb precision as it opened in the glass. Wonderfully detailed and vibrant in the mouth, with sappy flavors of red fruits and minerals. It's hard to find pinot like this from anywhere but Burgundy. Finishes with terrific persistence and palate-cleaning freshness.
BurghoundAromatically reserved and backward with elegant and very fresh and pure red and black pinot fruit aromas nuanced by subtle spice notes. The medium full flavors are ripe, sexy and supple yet deliver excellent precision, impeccable balance and an attractive mineral streak than gives both lift and firmness to the wonderfully long finish. This is a lively effort that is underpinned by dense and firm yet remarkably fine tannins. I quite like this as the grace and class of its origins are plain to see. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes.
Wine AdvocateThe medium to dark ruby-colored 2002 Chambolle-Musigny reveals dark cherry aromas as well as a medium-bodied, satin-textured personality. Armed with awesome depth, it is expansive, powerful, yet refined and well-structured. Mocha-laced jammy black fruits can be found throughout its expressive character as well as in its long, sweet, velvety finish. Projected maturity: now-2011.
