Hugel Classic Riesling 2014

SKU 03916

For over 370 years and with 13-family generations the Hugel family has produced beautiful classic wines of Alsace. Known today for their passion and modern outlook, the dynamic Hugel family, located in the fortified village of Riquewihr, has earned a worldwide reputation for their Alsace wines. The grapes used to produce Hugel's Classic Rieslings come exclusively from estate owned vineyards or from growers under long term contract surrounding the village of Riquewihr. Made with sustainable farming practices and Clay and Limestone soils, the average age of the vines is 20+ years. 2014 is a top vintage for current drinking or aging. Look for ripe stone fruit, green apple, mineral and ripe lemon zest complexities in this aromatic and exquisitely balanced Riesling. Fresh and totally thirstquenching, this is an outstanding example of dry Riesling.

James SucklingThis is a real charmer in a way the basic Riesling from Hugel never was before. The fruit aromas practically leap out at you, ranging from pineapple to apple, citrus, peach and Mirabelle. Somehow this properly dry Riesling manages to taste full-bodied, fully ripe, yet also charming and refreshing. The acidity is lively, but the finish is silky in a way thats not normal for wines of this category. Just over 50% estate fruit, just under 50% bought in (all from south of Colmar on limestone-clay or similar soils).

Wine EnthusiastSome riper stone fruit has joined with bright aspects of green apples and ripe lemon zest in this aromatic and exquisitely light-footed Riesling. Balanced and totally refreshing, it has a gloriously lip-smacking finish.

Vinous"Pale yellow-green. Nectarine, green apple and medicinal herbs on the nose. Juicy, spicy and energetic in the mouth, showing lovely lift and cut to the flavors of lime, apple and minerals. Finishes perfumed and long. With 7.9 g/l total acidity and only 3.7 g/l residual sugar, this Riesling is resolutely dry. In fact, it strikes me as especially spicy and lemony, almost tart; Id forget about it for a year or two and then try a bottle to see how its coming along."
