Barrell Craft Spirits Batch #17 10 year old
The idea behind Barrell Craft Spirits is to 'explore the unique effects of different distillation methods, barrels and aging environments, and bottle them at cask strength.' This is accomplished through outstanding relationships within the tightly knit spirits community and sourcing the best distillates available without compromise. By definition, the bottlings of Barrell Spirits are limited in nature with new releases hitting the market frequently. Barrels are sourced from around the country (and soon the world), shipped to Barrell’s facilities in Georgetown and Frankfurt, Kentucky for additional aging and bottling. Barrell Craft Spirits is dedicated to moving towards complete transparency. However, some of their partners insist upon production non-disclosures.
This #17 is a Bourbon Whiskey distilled and aged in Tennessee, Indiana and Kentucky. A selection of 10 year, 4 month, 14 and 15-year-old barrels, crafted and bottled in Kentucky, with 112.5 proof cask strength bottling. The Mash Bill is composed of corn, rye and malted barley. Considered to be an homage to the spicy 10 year old style that is being lost in the bourbon distilling culture, Barrell #17 has aromas of mulled cider with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, purple plums, chamomile tea and orange blossom honey. With time, delicate notes of honeydew melon, meyer lemon, cuban mint and apple blossom float from the glass. On the palate, this is very rich and almost buttery, but balanced by an unexpectedly tropical, juicy side. The opening takes its cue from the nose, exhibiting pound cake and apple jelly, before an cascade of fruits rush in: pineapple, passion fruit, mirabelle plums, gooseberries, lime cordial, guava paste and graphite minerality.
