Benton-Lane wines are estate grown using organic, sustainable and biodynamic methods. The wine and vineyard teams work closely together to ensure the grapes are at the optimal level of maturity at harvest to produce wines of the highest possible quality. The owner and co-vineyard manager of Benton-Lane works carefully with their neighboring Pinot Gris grower to ensure the vineyard is carefully maintained and the grapes are harvested at the peak of maturity. The whole grape clusters are loaded directly into the press. The resulting juice has minimal contact with the skins because they contain bitter phenolic compounds that could be detrimental to the wine quality. The majority of the Pinot Gris juice is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at a very cool temperature to maintain the fresh flavors and aromas of the fruit.

The Pinot Gris grape is so named since the color of the wine is a grayish straw color, and the grapes are grayish in color. Gris is French for gray. 2015 was a warm year giving full flavor and aroma development. Aromas of honey and honeysuckle blossoms jump out of the glass followed by other floral notes, mango and citrus. On the palate the wine is crisp and well balanced. You get a burst of honeydew melon then lemon, grapefruit and a little fig. The wine will shine with Pacific Northwest oysters and pasta with clams in butter lemon broth.
