Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg represents to many the very pinnacle that Pinot Noir can achieve. Dr. Georges Mugneret assumed the reins of of this property in the late 1950s, shortly after beginning his career as an ophthalmologist. Over the ensuing thirty years, between tending eyes and vines, he added incredible parcels of 1er and Grand Cru vineyards before his sudden and tragic death in 1988. His wife Jacqueline and daughters Marie-Christine & Marie-Andrée decided to continue the legacy started by Dr. Mugneret. The transparency of this domaine’s wines reveals the nuances and idiosyncrasies of their individual terroirs, which has been one of the main reasons that Mugneret-Gibourg has become one of the superstars of Burgundy.
“….in my opinion, the wines of Mugneret-Gibourg epitomize everything one could desire in Pinot Noir….They just know how to make pure, effortless, delineated, tensile, terroir-driven wine that is not just complex and thought-provoking, but just delicious to drink. That’s the trouble tasting here. You just want to grab as many bottles from their bins as you can, flee out of the door yelling, “I don’t care…call the gendarmes…at least I’ve got my Ruchottes-Chambertin.” - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate

Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Vosne Romanée Village is from vines tucked just behind the family maison. The 2014 Vosne Romanée Village has a crisp, quite detailed bouquet that is tight at first but opens nicely in the glass. Even for a village cru there is fine mineralité here. The palate is tensile on the entry with a pastille like purity -- tart red cherries, fresh if not exuding immense depth towards the finish. Just pure Pinot Noir -- no more, no less. 88-90
