This authentic Spanish wine is the result of a great passion for the indigenous Spanish grape variety named Bobal. Grown in extreme continental conditions with unique soils in the Utiel-Requena region, this rich, savory red is made with malolactic fermentation and aged in French oak barrels for 6 months. Bodega Sierra Norte was founded in 1995 in Requena, in Valencia, and is located 900 meters above sea level. The founders wished to promote the local Bobal grape as well as to produce all natural, all organic wines. We tasted and loved this example with Columbian fare one evening, including grilled chicken, beans & rice, tostones, chicken with peppers and onions, and beef empanadas.
Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Pasión de Bobal is really perfumed with white flower aromas fused with blueberries to offer an open, aromatic, expressive and elegant nose. The palate is medium-bodied, with good balance and freshness. This is a well-crafted wine.
