The Venge (ven-ghee) family has farmed wine grape varieties in Napa Valley for almost 50 years. It is a journey that began when Knud Venge emigrated from Denmark to the United States in the early 1900’s. Knud's son, Per Venge, found his passion in the wine and spirits industry and started Vencom Imports, focusing on the importation of Western European fine wines and spirits. It was Per's son, Nils Venge, who left the family business in the 1960's with a vision to study viticulture at UC Davis and establish the family name as an icon in the winegrowing community.
Nils' son, Kirk Venge, gravitated to winemaking at an early age. He proved to be as talented a winemaker as his father, making wines in his own style, with a vision to build on the family legacy. In 2008, Kirk achieved his lifelong dream and acquired full ownership of Venge Vineyards. Today, Kirk continues the Napa Valley heritage, focusing on select vineyard sites that produce fruit worthy of bearing the Venge family name.
2015 marks another great vintage at this Calistoga estate, especially for varietals like Zinfandel, Charbono, Syrah, and Petite Sirah. The growing season started early after an unseasonably mild winter, leading into a cool bud-break resultantly low berry-set. These small bunches outperformed in the cellar: the high skin-to-juice ratio of the must has given us the densest colored wines in decades, and inky color happens to be a hallmark of our Scout’s Honor proprietary red wine. 2015 Scout’s Honor is a generous mouthful of red wine made of 70% old vine Zinfandel (some vines 100+ years old, 14% old vine Charbono 9% dry farmed Petite Sirah and 7% mountain Syrah from Stagecoach vineyard. 0.59 g/100mL T.A. 4.0 pH, 15.3% Alc Only 1,094 Cases Produced.

Wine AdvocateDeep garnet-purple colored, the blend for the 2015 Scout's Honor is 70% Zinfandel, 14% Charbono, 9% Petite Sirah and 7% Syrah. The nose offers up warm blackberries, cherry pie and mocha with hints of cedar and roses. Full-bodied, rich and opulent with velvety tannins, it finishes long and perfumed.
