Rey Campero Mezcal Espadin
Traditional, artisanal mezcal forms an important part of rituals, ceremonies and festivities in México, which are known as 'Jolgorios'. Nine unique El Jolgorio Mezcals are made exclusively from different species and varieties of wild-harvested agave by Master Distillers in local indigenous Zapotec villages in Oaxaca, and are twice distilled in copper pot stills. On every bottle is inscribed the species of agave, the age at harvest, the village of production, the name of the Master Distiller, and the batch and lot number so as to truly connect the drinker with the land, people, and plants at the heart and soul of their mezcal.
Rey Campero Espadín is made from wild harvested agave of the Espadín variety. Fermented for a full month with wild yeasts and bottled unfiltered, this is mellow in taste, lightly smoky, tangy, minerally and creamy. Positively delicious and refined, we just loved this fragrant, beautiful smelling mezcal. We also learned during this extensive tasting that most mezcals are only fermented for 4 days to 2 weeks, so the longer, slower ferment on this gives it a more balanced, fresher flavor. Serve straight on the rocks with a squeeze of lime, make a unique margarita with both this and a blanco tequila or create another exotic mezcal cocktail.
