Nugan Estate Third Generation Shiraz 2016
The beginnings of Nugan Group took shape in Valencia, Spain, when a young Alfredo Nugan entered the fruit export market in the 1940's. Drawing on his experiences from Spain, he used both innovation and strict quality control to become a pre-eminent supplier of superior produce, first to Australia and then to the world. It is from this role model that the Nugan Wines are produced. All of the wines for the Nugan Estate are sourced from their own vineyards to produce premium wines. Nugan represents the best of Old World tradition and the latest in New World winemaking technology, and has crafts wines from the vineyards in McLaren Vale, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra, King Valley and the Riverina. Before concentrating on their own brand, the Nugan group was the largest and the best supplier of fruit in the Riverina region to Southcorp and Penfolds for wines such as the Penfolds Koonunga Hills and Kalimna Bin 128.
We tasted and loved this 'Third Generation' Shiraz, the name being a nod to the Nugan family's history of winemakig. The fruit was harvested at optimum ripeness in the cool of the night to preserve delicate fruit flavor. After crushing and destemming, fermentation took place in static fermenters with American oak. Thereafter, the wine underwent maturation for 12 months in new and seasoned American and French Oak before final blending and bottling.
