Painted Wolf The Den Pinotage 2017
We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.
Painted Wolf produces wines with a distinctive South African feel, and to that end focus largely on wines crafted from Chenin Blanc and Pinotage – the two bench mark South African grape varieties, The grapes are sourced from their pack members' vineyards, which are low yielding, mostly unirrigated and farmed organically or sustainably. This wonderfully refined example of South African Pinotage has flavors and aromas of red spiced fruits and hints of smoke in a medium-bodied format. The Pinotage grape is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault of the Rhone Valley. Serve with grilled chicken, hamburgers, country pâté. The winery suggests that 'Pinotage is the best possible red wine in the world to pair with Mexican dishes such as Fajitas or that glorious confection of chicken, chocolate, cumin seeds, smoky ancho chilli, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds which is called Mole. It is also very good with other flavorsome American regional specialties such as with Carolina Pulled Pork and smoky Texas B.B.Q beef rib.'
The 'Painted Wolf' (Lycaon Pictus), also known as the African Wild Dog or Painted Dog, is one of Africa’s most fascinating and highly endangered mammals. They have a highly co-operative family social structure and are extremely persistant and effective hunters. They are the inspiration of the winery. They support the conservation of this intriguing and beautiful animal with a contribution from every bottle of wine sold and through their communications.
The bulk of the Pinotage was destalked and fermented in tanks with various staves. Malolactic and maturation was completed on staves. Aprox 25% of the wine was fermented in small open fermenters and matured in small French and American oak barrels. The wine was finished by blending 15% of a Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvedre blend.
