Domaine Barraud Saint-véran Les Pommards 2014
“Daniel Barraud is without question one of the finest growers in all of the Mâconnais, and there is a credible argument to be made that his remarkable consistency vaults him right to the very top of the list.” –Allen Meadows (AKA Burghound)
Daniel Barraud's wines combine richness, precision, and minerality in Maconnais wines. Working 100% organically (and considering actual certification), he harvests all of the parcels by hand, and bottles without fining or filtration. With the exception of the Macon-Chaintré, these wines are all barrel-aged, with varying percentages of new oak depending on the vineyard, but the oak plays a supporting role and is always beautifully integrated. “For anyone seeking an introduction to the heights of Mâcon, Domaine Barraud would be near the top of my list.” –Wine Advocate
Wine AdvocateThe 2014 Saint Véran les Pommards has more complexity and intensity than the En Creche, roaring out of the glass with lovely flint and smoky notes before settling down to something more refined. The palate is very well balanced, quite phenolic in the mouth but very well balanced. I love the weight here and yet it is never overpowering, hints of almond and peach skin embroidered on the finish. This is a classy number.
