SKU 03183

This little gem from Spain's Ribera del Duero region, is a joint venture of Eric Solomon and Rafael de Haan. A well-known wine pioneer, Solomon was named Robert Parker's Wine Personality of the Year for 2002, remarking, “Solomon has a great talent for ferreting out spectacular wines from France and Spain. The quality of these selections is remarkable.” In 2006 he was awarded Best Importer of the Year by Food and Wine Magazine and he has been a James Beard semifinalist for Outstanding Wine and Spirits Professional in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Writing in celebration of Solomon's company, European Cellars’ 25th anniversary, Robert Parker followed on his earlier praise, writing, “I first tasted with Eric in 1991/1992, and I have watched him grow as an importer to the point where he may be the finest in the United States."

The 2013 Creta is made of 100% hand picked Tempranillo, tank fermented and aged 4-5 months in French and American oak. The vineyard where the fruit is from is 70 years of age at 950+ meters in altitude vineyards, the highest in the Ribera del Duero. The soils have extraordinary chalk content (creta) which gives this wine a true sense of place (terroir).

Wine AdvocateThe 2013 Creta Roble, is also a custom cuvée from importer Eric Solomon. Made from 60-plus-year-old vines from an area of Ribera del Duera known as La Horra (Pingus and Aalto emerged from this area as well). This expansive, savory, complex, deep ruby/purple red wine shows notes of new saddle leather, black and red currants, has a savory, medium-bodied expansive mouthfeel, with loads of black fruits, licorice, subtle smoke and earth. This is a lovely, sexy, opulent style of wine to drink over the next 4-5 years.
