Rocca delle Macìe was founded in 1973 when Italo Zingarelli bought the historic Le Macìe vineyard in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Today Italo’s son Sergio, his wife Daniela, and their two children take care of the family winery. For 20+ years, they have made this rich, velvety wine, Roccato, of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Positively delicious, mouth-filling and round with plum, blackberry, mineral and licorice, Roccato is aged for 15 months in French oak. Serve with steak, lamb, short ribs and pasta.

Wine EnthusiastA blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon in equal parts, this opens with aromas of black-skinned fruit, cedar and a whiff of espresso. The polished palate doles out juicy black plum, white pepper and licorice alongside ripe tannins.

Wine AdvocateThe 2013 Roccato is equal parts Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon with a ripe, robust and sunny disposition. The wine is saturated and thick with warm climate aromas of cherry marmalade and dark blackberry. It offers ample richness and softness. It hits that proverbial sweet spot that makes it both accessible in personality yet rich and fruit-forward in constitution. Some 20,000 bottles were produced.

VinousThe 2013 Roccato, the estate's Sangiovese/ Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is a pleasant wine to drink now and over the next few years. Black plum, smoke, tobacco and mocha all develop in the glass. It would be nice to see a little more character here.
