Le Charmel Pinot Noir 2016
This delightful little Pinot is from Limoux, one of the coolest parts of Languedoc at the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in the South of France. The milder temperatures and rain falls and the rocky soils consisting of clay and limestone create a unique terroir. About 25% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 6-9 months. The name 'Le Charmel' refers to Charlie and Mel, the father and son team producing the wine. This Pinot Noir is less 'jammy' than its Californian cousins yet full of flavor. It has lovely aromas of violets and shows ripe raspberry characteristics on the palate. With its supple texture yet bright acidity, it paired beautifully with assorted sushi rolls, salmon and tuna entrees during a dinner with owner Mel Master, whom we have known and loved for over 15+ years. Try at home with chicken, salmon or light meat dishes.
