Tenuta di Salviano is owned by Marchesa Nerina Corsini Incisa della Rocchetta, whose family crafts the legendary Sassicaia. Her rich, supple red here from Umbria is similar in style to a delicious Super Tuscan. Made of 50% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, Turlo is an IGT wine with the regional designation of Lago di Corbara. The Turlo vineyards are located on the hills of Lake Corbara's northern bank. The soil there is composted of red clay, tufa (a limestone common to central Italy) and small pebbles. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness to ensure a clean and concentrated wine. Part of the blend is aged in French oak to impart a balanced touch of toast and vanilla, and this is perfect to serve with braised meats, risotto and aged cheeses in particular.
