Hamilton Russell Vineyards is one of South Africa's finest estates. Founded in 1975 by Tim Hamilton Russell, the estate is positioned on Africa's most southerly point, which benefits from a cool, maritime climate, in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley . Tim's son Anthony Hamilton Russell took over the management and ownership of the estate in 1994, and narrowed the range of wines to exclusively produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, believing these varieties were ideal for the terroir of the vineyards. Extensive soil research identified the stony, clay-rich, shale-derived soil as optimal for the individual, expressive style they aim for.
'Bravo to Hamilton Russell, who produce one of the finest New World expressions of Pinot Noir that I have encountered. When Hamilton Russell gets it right, they hit bullseye.' Wine Advocate

Wine SpectatorGorgeous, with a silky, persistent and racy structure guiding alluring rooibos tea, blood orange, damson plum and singed wood spice notes along. An iron edge underscores the elegant finish. Already approachable, but there's no rush. Drink now through 2020. 1,300 cases imported.

Wine AdvocateThe 2015 Pinot Noir offers attractive red cherry and bergamot tea-like scents on the well-defined bouquet, that "foxy" note on the 2014 fortunately not in evidence here. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry, vivid red cherry and raspberry fruit, a fine silver bead of acidity, the 40% new oak neatly embroidered into the fabric of the wine. I like the symmetry here, the warmth of the growing season really benefiting the style of this Pinot Noir. Back on form after the 2014.
