Ciacci Piccolmini is one of the most sought-after producers in Montalcino. This ancient estate has 35 hectares of superior holdings in the prized Castelnuovo dell'Abate zone, including the 'Pianrosso' vineyard (from which the best grapes are selected for the Brunello di Montalcino) and the 'Fonte' vineyard, which produces grapes for the Rosso di Montalcino.
This Rosso, made of 100% Sangiovese Grosso, is always one of our top selling Montalcino wines in every vintage. Look for bright and rich red fruit, sweet earth, dried citrus zest and gentle spices. The vineyard is organically farmed and the wine is fermented in stainless steel and concrete vats before being transferred to large Slovenian oak where it rests for 12 months.
- 100% Sangiovese from 7.5 hectares in Castelnuovo dell’Abate
- 180-360 meters above sea level with mineral-rich marly soils
- Fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and cement tank
- Aged in large 20-75 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels for 12 months

Crushed blackberries combine with rosemary, crushed stone and hints of olive as the 2024 Rosso di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is cool-toned and silky with sleek red berry fruits and crunchy mineral tones. A web of fine tannins frames a tart raspberry resonance on the long, classically dry finish. This is easily one of the most enjoyable Rossos I've tasted from Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona.
