Aperitivo Time! Meet Winemaker Francesca Poggio di Gavi
September 17, 2026 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Sometimes in life you meet people who are so filled with joy, authenticity and warmth that you positively cannot wait to see them again....Francesca Poggio and her daughter Giorgia are two such precious people. Back in April 2024, they visited us at the Bottle Shop for us to taste their wines for the first time, and we have carried their wines ever since. We are so excited to welcome both of them to the Bottle Shop for our 1st VIP Fall Wine Event, and to share their wonderful wines & energy with all of you.
As well as being charmed by these two women, we were so impressed with their small batch, handcrafted organic wines. Growing up in the magical hills of Piedmont gave Francesca a deep rooted love of the land, its grapes and of course, of family. After working in real estate outside of the countryside, she decided to follow her heart & passion to make the wine at Il Poggio. She describes:
"I have chosen to live among the woods and vineyards of Gavi. This is where I spent my childhood holidays, right in the heart of Gavi, on the magical Rovereto hill, a privileged place which gives us one of the real historical crus of Gavi. This was where my great-grandfather Alfredo lived and, just like him, I too fell in love with Gavi. So much so that, as soon as I reached the age of 18, I left Milan and moved to Il Poggio di Gavi.
Taking my time, I then decided what I wanted to do with my life: on the 31st of July 2003, I left my job as an estate agent to breathe some life back into the family wine cellar. I started off with lots of enthusiasm, a farmhouse full of charm and a few hectares of vineyards. And Il Poggio di Gavi was born as a winery and bed & breakfast: two forms of hospitality on the wine hills of Gavi, which breathe the air that blows in from the sea. Things officially got going in 2004, when the winery produced just four thousand bottles. Now that number has risen to over 33 thousand, which I export almost all over the world."
We can't wait for you to meet her and daughter Giorgia, and to taste the wines she crafts with so much integrity and love!
Wines to be served TBD, but expect the Gavi below, plus one more unique & beautiful white and a standout, Piemontese red.
