We are thrilled to announce this intriguing wine event featuring wines from our local Outer Coastal Plain appellation. The Atlantic Wine Project was created by Patrick Harney in collaboration with the esteemed Bellview winery, farmed by the Quarella family for over a century. We tasted through all of Patrick's Jardín wines as well as several Bellview wines and we were so impressed that we purchased several wines to proudly stock in New Jersey, grown & made in New Jersey.

For this special event we will pair two whites and two reds with amazing local seafood from Spring Lake Seafood as well as fresh cheeses and charcuterie from our Gourmet Food Market. Atlantic Wine Project founder Patrick Harney will be our VIP guest speaker. After a career as a wine importer, Patrick has created his next career, this wonderful passion project, through which we believe he will elevate and educate the world-at-large about New Jersey wines!

Our first wine of the event will be Jardín White, made of 90% Cayuga White and 10% Aromella. Cayuga White is a signature grape of the Mid-Atlantic region. Cultivated by seasoned growers, it can produce a serious white with lovely citrus and stone fruit flavors. Aromelia is a newer variety developed on the East Coast which imparts an elegant floral freshness. A small amount of French oak is used for polish on the finish. The sandy, gravel soils of the Outer Coastal Plain play a key role in this wine's balanced acidity and elegant texture. The humid, maritime climate here is well-suited for these grapes as well. Cayuga White is resistant to mold, and is a hybrid grape developed at Cornell University.

Our first red will be Jardín red which has tantalizing aromas of tangy red fruits followed by berries and plums on the palate, and hints of spices and minerals. Made of 42% Cabernet Franc, 33% Chambourcin and 25% Blaufrankisch, this is positively lovely in flavor and full of charm! This will make a terrific red for outdoor BBQ's and more. Chambourcin is a signature red grape of the Mid-Atlantic region which is resistant to mold and is a hybrid grape. Cultivated by seasoned growers, it can produce a seriously good red with lovely red fruits and spices. Cabernet Franc is having more success in recent years on the East Coast and imparts an elegant freshness. The sandy, gravel soils of the Outer Coastal Plain play a key role in this wine's balanced acidity and elegant texture. The humid, maritime climate here is well-suited for the grapes in Jardín Red as well.

Next, Bellview Chambourcin is quite tasty and round with dark red fruits and hints of spice. A lovely medium-full bodied red that will please many red wine lovers. Not quite as muscular as Cabernet Sauvignon and not as delicate as Pinot Noir, Chambourcin is a hybrid grape that resists mildew which is perfect for the Outer Coastal Plains. And for the finale, we will offer a unique Dandelion wine made from an old Quarella family recipe that goes back for generations...

Founded in 2000, Bellview Winery is located on soil that the Quarella family has been farming for a century. A hard-working Italian-American family who loves to grow things, the Quarella's are led by Jim Quarella, founder and president of Bellview Winery, who takes pride in crafting fine estate wines exclusively from the grapes that are cultivated in their own 50 acres of vineyards which they farm with sustainable methods. Attention to detail and high quality is evident in each wine, which include over a dozen estate grown varietals as well as a selection of white, red, fruit, and specialty wines including a Port and an ice style wine. Bellview has also become well known for its Dandelion wine made from an old Quarella family recipe that goes back for generations.

Bellview focuses on grape varieties well-suited to the Outer Coastal Plain soils and climate, like this Chambourcin, which means that the consumer will have the joy of discovering new grapes. The sandy, gravel soils of the Outer Coastal Plain play a key role in this wine's balanced acidity and elegant texture. The humid, maritime climate here is well-suited for these grapes as well. This delicious Chambourcin is a medium-bodied red, with scents of thyme, spices and black cherry. The palate follows through with restrained oak flavors from aging 6 months in neutral oak barrels. These flavors and scents blend beautifully in this vintage, which makes a wonderful addition to roasted pork dinners, grilled burgers or chocolate desserts.
