Chateau la Fleur des Rouzes Pomerol 2015

js 93

Chateau La Fleur des Rouzes is a micro-estate located near Chateau Clinet in Pomerol’s exclusive district, known as ‘the plateau’. A family property for 100+ years, the estate is comprised of only 2.8 hectares (7 acres) of vineyards and the production is only about 500 cases. We grew up on a 10 acre horse farm, which was big for the suburbs, but very small for a wine estate! With such limited production, this wine has been rarely seen in the U.S. market. Made in a classic Pomerol style, the wine is from 26-year-old vines of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in complex soils with gravel, silt, iron and sandstone, sandwiched in between some of the most famous estates of the appellation. All harvesting is done by hand, fermentation is conducted in concrete vats, and aging is done in French oak barrels for 14-16 months (25 % new, 25 % one year 25 % two year and 25% three year).

Chateau Cantenac-Brown BriO de Cantenac Brown 2015

Classified as a Third Growth in 1855, Cantenac Brown is planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc on a 100 acre vineyard with complex gravel soils.  The first wine of the estate is collected across the globe by savvy Bordeaux enthusiasts, and typically trades for $80-100 per bottle. Although a classic, historic estate, Cantenac Brown is also modern in its thinking. They created a new wine in 2001 named: BriO de Cantenac Brown, with a beautiful label, and high quality inside the bottle, made from 100% estate grown fruit. Made from the younger vines, Brio is an elegant, fruit-driven wine which may be consumed in its youth, or cellared for up to 7-10 years from the vintage.

Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron Pauillac 2011

js 93 ws 92 wa 91

Located across from Château Latour and Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, the Pichon-Longueville Baron vineyard is superbly situated on gravelly soil with a full southerly exposure. Some of the vineyard is actually adjacent to that of Chateau Latour, and both properties produce full-bodied reds rich in tannin and structure. Pichon Baron is also the flagship estate of the AXA wine portfolio. Located in Pauillac, Pichon Baron extremely high quality Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines. A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller percentages of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the style is one of ripe, intense red and black fruits with lovely floral notes and vanillan oak woven into the palate, along with structured, balanced tannins for long term cellar aging. The label is made in Reims, Champagne, by an old fashioned printer who is the only maker known to still use a method which sprays copper ink over a type of stencil to make these beautiful labels which are clearly one-of-a-kind.
