DOMAINE
DU PERE CABOCHE
+ Rare White & 100+year Single Vineyard

Jean-Pierre Boisson, former long-serving mayor of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, runs Domaine Père Caboche with his children Emily and Nicolas. Since the 1700's, Boisson family members have been both winemakers and blacksmiths for generations. In fact, the family nickname of Caboche derives from the old Provencal word for ‘horseshoe nails’. Today the family handpicks their grapes from estate vineyards planted to mostly Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvèdre and other local varieties, and produces traditional, delicious Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines, both red and white. Our first wine today is the classic cuvée of the estate, showing off ripe red fruits, minerals (schist), smoky, soft spices, licorice and Espelette red pepper notes. At $29.99 it's by far the best buy we can find in Châteauneuf right now. The second red is made with 100+ year old vines planted in 1906. Named as a tribute to Elisabeth Chambellan, the vineyard came into the hands of the current family when Elisabeth married Jean-Louis Boisson in 1777. This cuvee is deeper, richer and more intense than the estate red, yet is still fresh and elegant. Both reds are drinkable now with some aeration, and both will age well for 5-10+ years. And our final wine is very rare ~ a Châteauneuf-du-Pape BLANC ~ from a region where only 7% of the wines are white. This will really wow your senses with its peach, pear, ginger, orange blossom and spice notes. Made of Clairette, Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne.

Domaine du Pere Caboche Châteauneuf du Pape 2019

jd 93

RATED 91-93 JEB DUNNUCK : 'The classic cuvée from this estate, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape is Grenache dominated yet includes a splash of Syrah and Mourvèdre. It's raised in a mix of foudre, stainless steel, and concrete tanks. It's a beautiful wine in the making and has a fresh, elegant, already complex style that has lots of red, black, and blue fruits, notes of violets and orange blossom, medium-bodied richness, and silky tannins. It's going to drink nicely right out of the gate and evolve for 15 years.'

Domaine du Pere Caboche Châteauneuf du Pape Elisabeth Chambellan Vieilles Vignes 2018

wa 91

RATED 91 WINE ADVOCATE : 'Marked by scents of smoked meat and ripe, plummy fruit, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Elisabeth Chambellan Vieilles Vignes is full-bodied and expansive on the palate, lush, velvety and fun to drink, although not possessed of tremendous length. The tannins slowly build on the finish, but I would opt to drink this on the young side, as I see it only becoming drier and more savory over time.'

Made of local white grapes : 40% Clairette, 15% Grenache blanc, 30% Bourboulenc and 15% Roussanne, this is a particularly interesting wine for the Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Greco di Tufo and/or Viognier drinker to try... the nose is intense and exotic with white peach, pear and sweet clementine aromas followed by flavors of ginger, honey, minerals, flowers and herbs. The mouth is full-bodied and creamy yet refreshing and brisk. Since the wine is not aged in oak, it stays vibrant. The finish is long and silky.
