Happy New Year!
Domaine Guigal
-The Rhone Valley's Crown Jewel

We are starting the New Year off with a bargain from one of our favorite go-to producers, Guigal! The Guigal domaine was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis; a small, ancient village at the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. The wineries reputation was steeped in making traditional wines in the most important appellations of the Rhône Valley. Today, it is Etienne's son Marcel and grandson Philippe, who continue the work of growing grapes, managing vineyards, sourcing long-term vineyard partners, and making world-class wines. We have chosen 4 wines, all of which we tasted and loved. From an everyday Cotes-du-Rhone to a 2015 vintage Chateauneuf (great to drink with a little bottle age!), as well as a small production Cote Rotie, and one of the most sought after wines on the planet- La Turque from Cote Rotie which is affectionately known as one of the La La's…...

E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône 2017

jd 92 wa 91 v 90 we 90

"Saturated ruby. Ripe black raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by suggestions of cracked pepper, allspice and pungent flowers. Supple, appealingly sweet red and blue fruit preserve flavors gain energy with air, and a bright mineral element adds back-end lift. Supple tannins add shape to a persistent, floral-accented finish, which leaves cherry and spice notes behind." Vinous

E. Guigal Châteauneuf du Pape 2015

we 94 v 93 wa 92 ws 91

"This bottling from Guigal punches above its weight class with penetrating dried-cherry and raspberry flavors accented by smoke, char, earth and leather. Unctuously full bodied and edged by a rasp of drying tannins, it's a hedonistic but structured wine that should improve through 2030." Wine Enthusiast

E. Guigal Côte Rôtie Brune et Blonde 2017

jd 93+ wa 90-92 ws 92

"Lively, with a mix of damson plum and bitter cherry notes lined with sanguine and iron hints. An understated style, but this has range and is sneaky long, with dried savory and bay leaf details on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2032." Wine Spectator

E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Turque 2014

wa 98 ws 97

"Very dark, lush and alluring, this lets waves of Turkish coffee, warm ganache, melted black licorice, fig and plum sauce roll through while a light mesquite frame melds nicely along the edges. A tug of earth at the end keeps this grounded while the fruit pumps along. Best from 2021 through 2042." 90 cases imported. Wine Spectator
