Antinori Santa Cristina Toscana Rosso 2016

ws 90

Santa Cristina was originally introduced in 1946 as a Chianti Classico by Piero Antinori's father, Niccolò. But with the passage of the 1984 DOCG laws - spearheaded by Piero Antinori- requiring lower vineyard yields for Chianti Classico, Piero changed this little everyday wine in 1987 to a Toscana so he could blend other grapes including Merlot into the Sangiovese. Look for vibrant ripe fruit on the nose with hints of flowers. Well-structured, soft and harmonious. Ripe tannins and lingering fruit in the finish will pair well with pasta in tomato basil sauce or with brick oven pizza.

Antinori Santa Cristina Orvieto Classico Campogrande 2017

This crisp and tasty white is from Umbria where the ancient Popes of Italy would spend summers and pair Orvieto Classico with seafood crudi. Look for Meyer lemon, ripe yellow grapefruit and hints of herbs in the nose and mouth. Made of mostly Grechetto and Procanico with splashes of Verdelho and Malvasia, this white is the perfect seafood wine or for serving as an aperitif.
