Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley by winemaker Joy Merrilees and aged 28 months in barrel • 40% new oak 100% French oak selections. Ovis (Latin for sheep)…. is a small lot of wine that pays homage to the flock of sheep that help control the cover crops and weeds in the sustainably farmed vineyards. From 2 Napa mountain vineyards Ovis has produced this rich, wonderfully aromatic and mouth filling wine. Aromas of dark fruits, dried herbs, cassis and black pepper fuse with the flavors of dried fruits, sweet tobacco, anise and cedar that resonates up through the glass.

Founded in 1857, Buena Vista is California’s first premium winery, and its history is as colorful as it is proud. Today, the legend is being re-born under the vision of Jean-Charles Boisset. Just outside the town of Sonoma, the original winery is now a California Historic Landmark, and home to the Buena Vista winery, tasting room and visitor's center. Sourced from vineyards from Yountville to St. Helena, the Buena Vista Napa Cabernet was aged for 28 months before being racked and aged an additional four months in French oak barrels, 40% new, for final aging. It was then bottled unfiltered.

The grapes hail from vineyards throughout the Napa Valley, producing a rich and opulent Napa red wine with intensity, structure and power. It opens with rich aromas of black cherry and cardamom with a touch of black licorice. Spreading across the palate are flavors of red plum, black currant and cherry. The fine-grained tannins are silky and soft with a full-bodied mouthfeel and a long, lingering finish.

Here’s the story behind Hamilton Creek: when estates in California have a surplus of juice to sell, it is possible for wine distributors/brokers to buy super high quality wine to blend and bottle under their own private labels. This is one such wine, made from Cabernet Franc grown at Silver Oak and purchased and crafted by one of our esteemed importers. While Cabernet Franc grape is often used for blending in Bordeaux and California, it is the absolute star here. Hamilton is ripe, polished, medium-full-bodied and balanced. Black cherry, cassis, vanilla and mocha abound with the slightest hint of sweet bell pepper, a classic nuance of the grape.
