Château-Haut-Bergey Pessac Leognan 2012

we 90 wa 90

The Haut-Bergey estate dates back to the 16th century for winegrowing; today the owners (who also own Clos L'Eglise in Pomerol), utilize the winemaking expertise of both Michel Rolland and Jean-Luc Thunevin. Made up of 56 acres, the estate's red vines are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot with an average age of 35 years. Robert Parker has said, "This is one of the most amazing quality turnarounds I have ever seen. In less than five years, Haut-Bergey has become one of the stars of Pessac-Leognan."

Chateau Sociando Mallet Haut Médoc 2012

ws 91 wa 90

Sociando-Mallet is clearly one of the finest, if not the finest, estate in Haut-Medoc. Planted to 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the vineyard is superbly situated overlooking the Gironde River. The style of the wine is one of inky black color, loads of concentration and plenty of tannin. 'Sociando-Mallet is the poster child for what cru bourgeois estates can achieve. This is a wine that is consistently of classified-growth quality and also one of the longest lived wines made in the Medoc.' Robert Parker

Chateau Grand Mayne Saint Emilion 2012

wa 92 we 92 ws 91

RATED 92 ROBERT PARKER :: 'One of my favorite “under the radar” St.-Emilion estates, the full-bodied, impressively well-endowed, opaque purple-colored 2012 Grand-Mayne offers up scents of blueberries, crushed rocks, spring flowers, vanilla and black raspberries. It is a blue fruit-dominated wine with lots of body, sweet tannin and hedonistic, almost primordial appeal because of its exuberant glycerin, texture and fullness. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. ' 90-92 Chateau Grand Mayne was created by the Laveau family at the end of the fifteenth century. Planted to 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chateau Larcis-Ducasse Saint Emilion 2012

wa 95 ws 93 we 93

RATED 95 ROBERT PARKER :: 'This great terroir, long owned by the Gratiot family, has come to life under the inspired winemaking of Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt. Some recent vintages have been legendary efforts, especially 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010. The 2012 (83% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc) is right in the competition, with an inky, opaque, bluish/purple color, gorgeously sweet, rich nose of black raspberries, black cherries and currants, and licorice. The wine hits the palate with a full-bodied, thunderous effect. This blend tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol, which is indicative of its fabulously exposed vineyard on a full, steep limestone slope with a primarily southern exposure. This is full-bodied, ripe and one of the great stars of the vintage - again. The wine has full-bodied texture, gorgeous purity, richness and length. Drink it over the next 20 years.' Château-Smith-Haut-Lafitte Pessac Leognan 2012

wa 95 we 94 ws 94

RATED 95 ROBERT PARKER :: 'The opaque bluish-purple 2012 Smith Haut Lafite offers up notes of licorice, graphite, blueberry and blackberry fruit, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, stunningly ripe, velvety tannins and a long, long finish. This is another sensational effort from the Cathiards that is perfectly balanced, complex, super-rich and pure. Drink it over the next 20-25 years. This is another great turn-around effort that dated from the acquisition of this once moribund estate in 1990, by Daniel and Florence Cathiard. They continue to do an exemplary job with both white and red.'

Clos Fourtet Saint Émilion 2012

v 95 wa 95 ws 94

TOP 100 WINE OF THE YEAR 2015 WINE SPECTATOR --- #9 SPOT!!! --- AND RATED 95 VINOUS 'The 2012 Clos Fourtet is deep, fleshy and quite seductive. Sweet red cherry, plum, dried flowers, sage and rosemary flesh out in a pretty, gracious Clos Fourtet that offers lovely balance to match its mid-weight, restrained personality. This is a lovely showing, and a wine that should drink well with minimal cellaring. The 2012 preserves lovely freshness, there is plenty to admire, that much is sure. The 2012 is 86% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in French oak, 60% new.'
