Kir-Yianni was founded in 1997 as a premium spin-off of the Boutari Group, the leading wine and beer producer of Greece. The first vintage dates back to 1990, while the 1995 vintage was the first one for the estate wines under the Kir-Yianni brand name. Based on two 30-year-old estates in Northwestern Greece, the winery has an annual production of 500.000 bottles of dry white and red wines. More than half the labels are single vineyard growths from the total private acreage of 50 hectares planted with indigenous and international varieties on the eastern and western slopes of Mt. Vermio. While Kir-Yianni is better known for its rare Xinomavro, an indigenous Greek variety, it has also been internationally acclaimed as a top producer of Syrah, as well as of Sauvignon Blanc and its blend with Roditis -another indigenous Greek grape
