Domaine Marcel Lapierre
Family run for three generations, the grandfather, Michel Lapierre, settled in Villié-Morgon at the beginning of the century acting as the cellar master at "Domaines des Chênes". After the second world war, his son Camille followed in his footsteps. He began by selling by the barrel to bistros in Lyon and Mâcon. By the end of the 50s, he started selling his wines in bottles and expanded cultivation by buying several more parcels.
In 1973, with a substantial clientele established by his father with whom he continues to work today, M.Lapierre took over the domain comprised of seven hectares.
Between 1973 to 1980, a continuity was established, In 1981, inspired by his role model Jules Chauvet, a well-known and renown researcher at the Universities of California M.Lapierre decided to vinify without SO2 or additional yeast and adopt biodynamic viticultural practises : avoiding chemical fertilizers and herbicides.
Today, with 11 hectares of vineyards, combining technical progress with primitive methods, Marcel tries to give his Morgon the utmost expression of the terroir, the professed "decomposed granite".
He remains faithful to the spirit of the star varietal: "Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc". His wines, with their aromas of cherries and liquorice, are reputed world-wide.
