Domaine de Bernier![]()
Domaine de Bernier is an estate-bottled wine from the Couillaud brothers of Château de la Ragotière, from vineyards just outside the appellation of Muscadet. They are separated only by a small road and the soil is almost identical to that of Muscadet, a heavy clay with a little bit of chalk. The wine is from 20 year old vines and 8% is barrel-fermented in French oak, the remainder is aged sur lie in tanks. The wine is then bottled in the month of April.
This is 100% Chardonnay and entirely estate-bottled. The annual productions is approximately 15,000 cases. This is one of the few chardonnay vin de pays appellations that originates in the Loire and therefore has a much higher acidity.
This juicy little number is from the northern region of the Loire Valley in France, and is made by a very good Muscadet producer. This helps explain why although the wine is 100% Chardonnay, it is fresh and thirst quenching, versus overly oaky and round. Made by the Couillaud brothers ... more
