HISTORY
The property's château, known as Château Sociando, was built in the 17th century, purchased in 1850 by Mme. Mallet, and most recently acquired in 1969 by winegrower and merchant Jean Gautreau, the current owner. Under his care the estate has become one of the top Crus Bourgeois, a true rival of Classified Growths from the Médoc.
VINIFICATION
With an excellent exposure and gently sloping, well-drained vineyard soils which contain large quantities of gravel, the Château Sociando-Mallet estate has often been compared to the famous Château Montrose in Saint Estèphe. Traditional vinification practices including manual harvesting incorporate 70% new barrels every year. Wines are aged 12 to 15 months in barrel before bottling; they are not fined or filtered.
