Albino Rocca Barbaresco Vigneto Brich Ronchi 1999
Made of 100% Nebbiolo, the viticultural practices at Rocca are strict: organic fertilization, short pruning and green pruning. The very low production per hectare results in remarkable concentration for these wines. Aged in 90% new French barriques. Deep garnet red in color, the Bric Ronchi has an intense nose packed with fruity aromas of cherry and blackberry, layered with notes of vanilla, toasted nuts, and sweet spices. Rich, soft, and quite fresh on the palate, it has fine tannins and good length. Serve with savory pasta dishes, grilled meat, amd medium aged cheeses.
Wine Spectator
Generous and impressive. Lots of ripe plum, berry and spice in this young red. Full-bodied, with loads of fruit and chewy yet round tannins. Long finish. Best after 2005. 1,600 cases made.
Score: 92.

International Wine Cellar
Deep ruby-tinged red. Aromas of redcurrant, cherry, tobacco and mocha. Fat and round but bright, and sweetened by the substantial oak component. Flavors lifted by a dried flower element. Finishes very long, with huge, tongue-dusting but fine tannins that arrive late. This too will require patience.
Score: 92.

Wine Enthusiast
Long and firmly tannic, the only question is whether it has enough fruit. Our money says it does the hints of black cherries, leather and citrus peel currently walled off by a veil of cedar and tannin should emerge by 2010.
